Woodford County, Illinois, Illinois Prairie District Library, Obituaries, 1887-2000 Located in the central region of Illinois, the Illinois Prairie District Public Library with its six branch locations, serve 19,179 residents. The headquarters for the Illinois Prairie District Public Library is in the Metamora Branch. The IPDP Newspaper Obituary Index has been compiled from microfilmed copies of "The Woodford Sentinel Newspaper" (Year 1887, January-December 6th 1889) and "The Metamora Herald Newspaper" (December 20th 1889-2000) and is a listing of surnames A-M. This database is being updated to include obituaries for persons with surnames beginning with the letters H-M. The newspapers cover the nearby towns of Spring Bay, Washburn, Benson, Roanoke, Germantown Hills, Cazenovia, and Low Point. The IPDP Newspaper Obituary Index includes; surname, first name, middle name, nickname, title, gender, birth date, death date, age, newspaper, newspaper date, section, page number, and column number.

Extended Description

A card file version of the IPDP Newspaper Obituary Index is maintained at at the Metamora Branch of the Illinois Prairie District Public Library. This version includes cross references to women's maiden names and previous married names. The project staff (Grant Fredericksen, Roberta Grooms, and Carol Wood) and many dedicated volunteers have made this index available for your use. We have tried to include all of the obituaries, whether full length or a line, but errors and omissions may have occurred and for this we apologize. Photocopies of obituaries as they appear on the microfilm may be ordered from the Illinois Prairie District Pubic Library by mail, fax, or e-mail.
