Narrative of the early life of a southern Wisconsin settler in the middle of the nineteenth century.


Raised on a farm near Mineral Point, Wisconsin in the 1830s, John Parkinson lived in the Midwest until trekking to California in 1860. This database, written in 1920, is a collection of reminiscences of his life in the state. It contains descriptions of his childhood, particularly life on a farm, and agricultural practices. Additionally, it provides commentary on the Black Hawk War and its effect on relations with the Native American population of the area.
