Description

Granted to the Duke of York by the King of England, New Jersey was settled in the seventeenth century by a diverse group of persons from Europe and other American colonies. Originally published in 1916, this database is a collection of biographical sketches of nearly 1,000 prominent men and women who helped settle and govern the colony and state. Compiled from the extensive historical records available at the State Archives, entries provide helpful details regarding the individual, including birthplace, occupation, and important achievements. In most entries, names of spouse and children are revealed. Additionally, notable descendents are listed. For researchers of ancestors from New Jersey, this database can be a helpful source of detailed information.
