Located about forty miles west of Boston and home to over 3600 men and women in the 1870s, Westborough Massachusetts was a center for a number of shoe, boot, and sleigh manufacturers. Extended Description

Westorough had a State Reform School, with approximately 217 boys ages 9-16 as "residents" and 44 personnell. The town was also home to shoe and boot factories, a straw factory and sleigh manufacturing. As with other manufacturing towns, there were many Canadians, Irish, and also quite a few German families.
